Brain Over Brawn is the second episode of the third season of Family Matters, which aired on ABC on September 27, 1991. It was directed by Richard Correll and written by Fred Fox Jr.
Synopsis[]
It's a battle of brains vs. brawn, as Urkel and a braggart classmate vie for the affections of Laura in a rope-climbing contest. Meanwhile, Carl and Eddie try to fix a leak in their roof against Harriette's admonition to call a qualified profession to fix the leak in their roof properly.

- In the original ABC broadcast, the ending gag crossed over with Step by Step, where Urkel's jet-propelled flight pack causes him to fly through the Winslows' roof and crash-land in Port Washington, Wisconsin, where the Foster/Lambert family is enjoying a barbecue.
- The ending of this Family Matters episode is continued in the Step by Step episode "The Dance", where Urkel, after crashing in their backyard, stays in Port Washington for the remainder of the Step by Step episode, and goes to a school dance with Alicia Lambert where he performs the Urkel dance.
- However, on syndicated reruns of Family Matters and on streaming services, the crossover with Step by Step is removed, featuring an alternate scene of Steve's out-of-control jet pack flinging him above the Chicago skyline. This was most likely done due to licensing rights issues, and thus the alternate ending scene prevents viewers who do not have access to Step by Step from being confused or left without resolution had the episode retained its original crossover ending.
